Arsenal are reportedly set to trigger Loic Remy’s £10 million release clause after Wenger requested a character reference of the player, according to reports in the Express.
The French international, who spent the last season on-loan at Newcastle United, scored 14 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions. He has recently made it clear that he does not want to stay with Queens Park Rangers and wants to play in the Champions League.
The report suggests Wenger has spoken to the president of Marseille, which is one of the Frenchman’s former clubs, regarding the player’s behaviour and his problems off the pitch during his time at the French club. An insider said:
Arsene rang our chairman. He seemed to be more interested in what kind of person Loic is. He didn’t give any trouble in the three years he was here.
Newcastle United have given up complete hope of making Remy’s deal permanent and have turned their attention towards Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga. Tottenham are also understood to be keen on him, but the striker is desperate to play Champions League football, which would give the Gunners an edge.
The French striker is very quick and scares defenders when he is running at them at full speed. He is a very calm but lethal finisher when he is in front of goal, something Arsenal don’t really have at the club other than Theo Walcott. He idolises Thierry Henry and even though he may not have the same quality as the legend, he certainly possesses similar characteristics to the French legend.
He has a very impressive goal record in the League and to add a proven goal scorer would be a big boost for us next season as we look to push on from our FA cup success. He would certainly offer some relief to the beleaguered Giroud in vital stages of the season, or maybe even surpass him as Arsenal’s first choice striker, with his pace a perfect complement for our creative midfield.
He is one of the best value options available on the market and would be a great option to have for the Gunners going into the next season. If we could possibly bring in Balotelli along with him, then we will definitely have one of the best attacks in the league next season.
