The 26 year old winger was outstanding with the Spanish club last season and played a starring role in their Champions League winning campaign.
The Argentinian international has been courted by the top European clubs and was subject to transfer speculation last summer after Gareth Bale’s arrival at the Spanish capital, but Madrid decided to keep Di Maria at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The report states that Madrid have set an asking price with a fee of around £40 million enough to clinch his signature, as Carlo Ancelotti is ready to part company with the midfielder.
The winger admitted last month that he is aware of all the interest from other clubs, but did not want to elaborate on his future plans. He said:
I am not going to lie, I know that there are clubs that want to sign me and can match Real Madrid’s demands.
But that’s up to my representatives and the club. I will stay if the club wants me to stay.
I am not thinking about my future now. We will see what Madrid have in mind, whether they want me to stay or leave.
Di Maria is one of the best wingers in the world and has only recently been lauded for his incredible attacking ability. He possesses excellent ball control, agility, athleticism and delivers great balls into the box from the wide position. His frightening pace and regular end product would be a valuable asset to any side as he is to the Spanish giants, but would fit in particularly well at Arsenal.
His no-nonsense style of attacking, combined with his lightning pace, would go a long way in adding that cutting edge to our attack. With Theo Walcott and Di Maria on opposite flanks and Ozil and Ramsey contributing to Arsenal’s attack, the Gunners would be a serious force to be reckoned with. He also has added central midfield to his list of positions, with Ancelotti experimenting with him there to great effect this season.
He is no stranger to pressure and thus the Argentine will bring a winning mentality to the club. However, it remains to be seen whether Wenger will be willing to spend that much on a winger, considering that they need a big name striker this summer.
