Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to meet the agent of Mario Balotelli in Brazil, according to reports in the Mirror.
The 23 year old has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over recent weeks, with rumours suggesting that he is set to leave Milan, for whom he has scored 30 goals in 54 appearances since joining from Manchester City in January 2013.
The report suggests Wenger will meet Balotelli’s agent in Brazil this weekend to discuss the player’s £25 million move to Arsenal. The striker is currently on World Cup duty with Italy and is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.
It further states that the Italian was originally interested in a reunion with his former Inter boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, however the Gunners are in pole position to sign the controversial front-man. His agent is said to be confident he can reach agreement with Wenger on a massive £150,000 a week deal.
The North London club are keen on adding a world class forward to their attacking options this season after finding themselves short up front over the course of last season, with Olivier Giroud often left to bear the weight of the lone forward role on his own.
The Italian’s aggressiveness and immense ability makes him an ideal candidate to score 20-plus goals during the lengthy Premier League season. He is strong in the air (as shown against England last week) and has proven to have a lethal strike when he’s on his game. Despite his potential to be a big match player, the striker has often demonstrated he can go completely missing in games which is a worry. Consistency is certainly not his thing…Yet.
Balotelli is perhaps more famous for his off-field antics than his play, but Wenger has the coaching ability and leadership qualities to turn his career around. He has been one of unrealized potential and that’s mostly because of his inability to avoid troublesome situations on and off the pitch.
The Gunners have lacked an influential player up front last season which costed them the league title. He is a controversial figure, but with the guidance of experienced Wenger, things may change and he is a gamble that is worth taking. Age is on his side, while his price tag isn’t over the top.
