If there is one player whose position has always been safe throughout his Arsenal career it is Santi Carzola. He is a very talented player, able to play in a variety of positions in midfield not to mention the fact that he is ambidextrous.
However his position in the starting lineup would come under serious threat if Fabregas was to rejoin Arsenal. Last season saw the emergence of Aaron Ramsey who has gone from strength to strength and, if Jack Wilshere can begin to realize his massive potential, he might prove to be a better attacking outlet than Carzola.
The record signing of Mesut Ozil seems to have brought out the best in all the players including Carzola and they have played well when on the pitch together. However, it is the possible signing of Cesc Fabregas that really threatens Carzola’s position in the team.
Carzola’s sumptuous free kick in the FA cup final showed how decisive he can be but Fabregas, with all his faults, has unbelievable through balls, can see spaces in defenses that no one else can and has finally added goals to his repertoire. Fabregas will not be able to walk straight back in to the Arsenal team but I tend to believe that given a sustained run in the team and it will be almost impossible to drop him.
Of course Santi Carzola can make a case for the left wing but if the rumors surrounding Griezmann are to be believed, Carzola might just find himself on the bench which in all fairness will be extremely unfair to him given his work ethic and the service he has given to Arsenal thus far.

Carzola has issued a passionate plea to Fabregas to ignore the advances of Manchester City and Chelsea and return to Arsenal. This shows the character of the player and the belief in his abilities. However, there must be a niggling feeling in the back of Carzola’s mind on the threat that Fabregas poses to his position in the team. It will not be the first time a player will issue a rallying cry for a particular signing then turn around and grumble when he does not get playing time.
Of course this is a moot point before the signing of Fabregas is confirmed seeing as he is more likely to end up in Chelsea but if Fabregas does return to Arsenal, the competition for spots in the team will be more fierce than ever which can only be good news for Arsenal fans.
