Newcastle and Southampton are reportedly interested in taking Arsenal’s versatile midfielder Serge Gnabry on loan for the season, with opportunities likely to be difficult to come by in north London for the upcoming campaign.
The 19-year-old is a huge star in the making, filling in for injured duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain excellently last season, opening his Premier League goalscoring account with a well taken finish against Swansea.
Arsene Wenger has an abundance of talent in his squad, and although Gnabry will get a look in especially with Cup games and injuries always a factor, he would greatly benefit from a season-long loan with another Premier League outfit.
The Daily Mail have reported both Newcastle United and Southampton have shown interest in acquiring the talented Germany U21 star for the season, with Wenger potentially open to the idea if Gnabry gains regular first team action, something that cannot be promised with the Gunners.
Arsenal acquired Alexis Sanchez this summer, while Walcott closes in on a return to action in early September, meaning Gnabry’s likelihood of playing for Wenger’s side seems a little doubtful. Oxlade-Chamberlain is also in the mix too, not to mention the likes of Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski.
The youngster can operate on either wing, in the hole or even as a false nine with the strength and pace he possess. He has become one of Arsenal’s most exciting youngsters, and looks to have a bright future at the club.
When playing for Wenger’s first team, he has predominantly operated on the wing and has a solid chance of slotting into both Southampton and Newcastle’s lineups. Personally I’d prefer to see him grow and develop with the Saints for a season, than under Alan Pardrew who is an… Interesting manager.
This is certainly a good idea, wouldn’t you agree Gooners?
