Arsenal are after Paris-Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani according to various sources despite Arsene Wenger confirming he is primarily in the market for a defender.
The Gunners have already added Alexis Sanchez to their ranks but could be looking to further reinforce their striking options by splashing a massive £50million on the Uruguay star.
The PSG forward has been firmly in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and has been consistently linked with the Gunners since before he left Napoli last summer. Wenger has previously spoken of his admiration for Cavani and the Frenchman may have the opportunity to get his man this transfer window.
Any potential move may be intertwined in a deal for Real Madrid star Angel di Maria, with the potential to off-load the 27-year-old to raise funds for the Argentina winger enticing for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Despite not often playing in his preferred centre forward role last season, Cavani netted a decent 25 goals in 43 appearances.
Will it happen?
It is believed Cavani has been offered assurances over his playing time but that could all change if PSG decide to spend big on the £63million-rated Di Maria. Talks between Madrid and the French giants have cooled after being scared off the total price with further punishments from FFP freshly on their minds.
Other English sides such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with Cavani while Wenger supposedly has an interest. But that does not mean he will fork out a huge sum on another forward.
Arsenal have far bigger issues starting with the backline that is calling for a centre back to challenge Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny with the departure of Thomas Vermaelen.
Wenger rates Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo so he will not be pushing his compatriots further down the pecking order. Especially after spending £35million (ish) on Alexis.
Certainly it would be a huge coup if the opportunity was there, but basically we have other priorities at present that are far more pressing and Wenger is more than satisfied with his present attacking options especially with Theo Walcott on the mend.
