Final score: Leicester 1 v Arsenal 1
A difficult game for the Gunners with Leicester City sitting extremely deep but offered a decent threat on the counter. They fouled a lot, time wasted a bit but they defended well.
We missed the cutting edge despite conjuring some promising situations and got pretty battered along the way. Definitely two points dropped rather than one earned after taking the lead well through Alexis and conceding a header which Koscielny should’ve done better with. Hopefully the Frenchman’s okay after his nasty head clash.
Here are the player ratings:
Szczesny 6.5: Couldn’t have done anything about the opener and made a couple of brilliant saves. Still makes my heart skip a beat with some of his short distributions. Lucky to not receive a caution for lashing out.
Debuchy 6.5: Struggled a little with his crossing and outnumbered at times at the back, but was solid in the air on corners and alright overall.

- [Confirmed Lineups] Arsenal v Newcastle United – Wilshere & Lacazette Start In 4-2-3-1
- Lacazette, Ozil & Wilshere All Start In 4-2-3-1 – Arsenal v Newcastle United [Predicted Lineups]
Mertesacker 6.0: Little bit rocky from The Sack, still rusty but came up with some crucial tackles at times. Just needs a little more sharpness.
Koscielny 4.0: Got absolutely nailed in a head clash early on which may have affected his attempt to prevent Leicester’s first, Not good positioning from the centre half and was substituted for Chambers. Should’ve been subbed straight away after the collision in hindsight.
Monreal 6.5: Did well against Nugent and put in a couple of good crosses and some tackles.
Flamini 6.75: A disciplined performance at times from the Flame. A little sloppy on a couple of occasions such as Leicester’s breakaway around the 80th, but held his position well overall and was always available as an option. Didn’t get a yellow.. Instantly earns an extra point for that.
Ramsey 6.0: Looked to get things going and sprayed the ball around well in patches, overall a little off colour but was continually fouled by the persistent Foxes.
Alexis 7.5: Well taken goal and looked very lively throughout. His work rate is exceptional and struck up a nice partnership with Santi. Was unable to really get in behind with Leicester sitting so deep.
Ozil 6.5: Looked very lively with some superb passes early on. Some very slick, accurate passes but failed to pick the opponents defence apart.
Cazorla 7.0: Beautiful chip over for Sanogo that set up Alexis’ finish, always looked to orchestrate proceedings but turned a little sloppy toward the end and was substituted. Like Ozil and Ramsey was unable to get at the defence more with space a premium.
Sanogo 6.75: Some excellent hold up play from the Frenchman and played his part in the opener with a well timed run. Still is not the difference maker we need up front, but worked hard and got those lanky legs involved when he could. Should’ve done better with the one on one and was unlucky with the odd offside call. Shouldn’t be our first choice striker by a long shot.
26′ Chambers 7.0: Some excellent tackles from the young Englishman. Continues to impress and deserved his England call up.
76′ Podolski N/A: Was unable to unleash his lethal left foot, almost got on the end of a great throughball.
76′ Oxlade-Chamberlain N/A: Couple driving runs that came to nothing but picked up a knock. Hopefully nothing serious.
