I totally agree with Arsene Wenger’s assessment when he analyzed the game between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad stadium, the infamous 6-3 scoreline. I have never blamed the team for that defeat. Infact I commend them for the effort they gave. After their exertions against a very strong Napoli side in the Champions League, it was a tough ask to go to the Etihad and have a repeat performance against an obviously psyched up Manchester City side. The image that has stuck in my mind is around the 70th minute when Yaya Toure goes past an exhausted duo of Flamini and Wilshere without so much as a challenge from either of them. I stood up and applauded the team knowing they could not give any more. They had put in a heroic performance but it was all too much in the end. The score line only flattered Manchester City. There are no excuses for the performances against Chelsea and Liverpool.
The game against Manchester City at the Emirates stadium produced a one all draw. The first half was dominated by Manchester City who obviously had a psychological edge over Arsenal at the time. Arsenal then played their natural game in the second half giving Manchester City a run for their money.
The Community Shield gives both teams a chance to see how much they have improved. Arsenal will want to show that one game was an anomaly and basically put things right while Manchester City will try to show the rest of the League they are still as formidable as ever. For the first time in a long time, Arsenal have managed to out shine Manchester City in the transfer window and are confident they can now compete with the best. Manchester City, on their part, have brought in players over thirty in the form of Bacary Sagna and Frank Lampard.
While this is no friendly and both teams will be out to prove a point, both managers will not want to give too much away before the season starts because they know other managers will be watching and taking notes. I expect Joel Campbell to shine in this game on the right wing while Alexis Sanchez will open his account. However, the man of the match will be Tomas Rosicky playing in his favourite position. This will be a high scoring game with both teams going for it. I predict 4-2 to the Arsenal.
