Arsene Wenger has confirmed Kieran Gibbs will miss the next two to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury, while Yaya Sanogo has been left behind as a precaution with a tight hamstring.
There is some good news however as Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Flamini have recovered and both travelled to Turkey to provide more options in defence and midfield respectively. Per Mertesacker has been left out of the squad and is expected to be in contention this weekend against Everton.
Wenger provided the latest team news update ahead of today’s Champions League clash with Besiktas:
We left Kieran Gibbs at home. He had to come off during the game with a hamstring problem. He will be out for two or three weeks. Flamini, who was sick, is here.
Sanogo stayed at home because he has a little hamstring problem and he was not comfortable this morning.
Arsenal’s official twitter feed confirmed the news of Koscielny’s fitness and Mertesacker’s absence:
