Gonzalo Higuain, the Argentinean forward, has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League in the near future. The former Real Madrid man was purchased by Italian club Napoli to replace the losses of Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi. But according to the latest financial reports, the club’s precarious economic situation could see them selling their biggest stars in order to clear their debts.
The club has a number of players they need to sell for cash, including Arsenal midfield target Marek Hamsik. While the midfielder is a luxury we could do without, a top class striker is sorely needed at Arsenal. Higuain has been linked with a summer move to the Premier League after his club’s precarious financial position alerted Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. But their qualification for the Champions League had enabled the club to fend off the English trio.
Valued at £80 million over the summer, the asking price is sure to drop by the time the next transfer window comes around, as Napoli try to recoup their losses. The Argentina forward impressed during the World Cup, and as such is sure to attract significant interest.
Style of Play and Stats:
The striker has appeared 190 times for Real Madrid, scoring 107 times. Since his move to Napoli, he has made 31 appearances, scoring 17 times. For his national team, Argentina, he has been capped 43 times and scored 22 goals.
Higuain is a great finisher, capable of finding the net from anywhere in the box. He is strong in the air, and his positioning is immaculate, he manages to arrive at the perfect time to beat the defence and convert the ball.
Should We Buy?
With the purchase of Welbeck, we have some degree of cover for when Giroud is fit, but with Giroud out for the long term we could definitely use another quality striker with European experience. Also, we need an accomplished finisher, capable of putting the ball into the net. Higuain is a natural poacher and as such could be exactly what we need.
