Borussia Dortmund v Arsenal
Kick off: September 16, 2014 19:45 BST
Arsenal face a tough challenge today against the German side of Borussia Dortmund. Always a tricky opponent, they are generally strong at home. Arsenal’s start to the Premier League has also been patchy, with only one win and three draws in their first four games. To beat a team like Dortmund, Arsenal need to bring their top quality game.
While Debuchy is out for the forseeable future with an ankle injury picked up in the game against Manchester City, another possible absentee is Calum Chambers. The youngster was revealed by Wenger to be suffering from a case of tonsilitis, and was 50/50 for the game. The final assessment should be carried out during the day today.
Nacho Monreal is yet another absentee from an already depleted and understrength Arsenal back line. The full back has a back problem, a niggle that should see him out of the team until Friday. This means that Arsenal have almost no cover out wide, and we may see the youngster Bellerin handed a start today. In an emergency situation, if Kieran Gibbs is not fully fit, Flamini may also have to drop into the back four.
Wenger revealed the following team news:
Monreal didn’t travel and we have a little problem with Chambers but he should be alright. Monreal has a back problem, he should be available on Friday. We’ll assess Chambers tomorrow morning. At the moment he’s 50/50 with tonsillitis.
Apart from that everyone is here, I don’t think I forget anybody apart from Debuchy, who is out for a longer period. Sanogo stayed at home as well with a little hamstring problem.
[on Debuchy’s injury] We don’t know [how long he will be out for yet].
[on whether his resources are stretched] In defence the Debuchy injury puts us a little bit in a situation where we do not want more. Hopefully we will have good news after he has a scan and that he will be back soon. We have Chambers who can play in different positions, Monreal can play centre back and we also have Bellerin who I think is now ready to play.
