The newly signed Arsenal right back gave an interview this week, prior to the team’s game against City. Debuchy, who was also France’s first choice right back at this year’s World Cup, was brought in from Newcastle by Arsene Wenger in an early deal.
Speaking to Arsenal.com Debuchy said,
Bacary is a good friend of mine for many years now as we have been playing together in the national French team. I like him a lot, we have a very good relationship and I wish him the best with Manchester City. I know he is going to perform well there, good luck to him, except on Saturday!
It is right for the new man to respect Sagna, a player who was capped 284 times by the Gunners, but it looks as though Debuchy is confident about his and Arsenal’s chances when they take on Sagna’s new team. He can afford to have a small measure of confidence since his opening games as a Gunner have been rather impressive outings.
It hasn’t been easy to replace Bacary because he performed very well here. Our games are quite similar and to take over from him is not going to be easy, but I am going to give my best to the club.
A sentiment all Arsenal fans will be glad to hear. At 29, he is only slightly younger than Bacary Sagna, 31, and thus not a long term replacement; but the amount of experience he possesses, of both the Ligue 1 and the Premier League, is sure to be a bonus, especially in Europe.
The Man City match is important for Arsenal. Now that we are done with international games we want to start on a positive note and we want to win that game.
We know it is going to be a difficult game, it is always difficult to play against Manchester City but we want to perform well on Saturday and win!
Walcott had mentioned during the summer that the mood in the training grounds was upbeat and optimistic. It looks as though that spirit has permeated throughout the whole team as they prepare to take on the champions. Several new signings including Debuchy look set to feature in that game, and it offers all of them a chance to become a hero in front of the adoring fans at the Emirates.
