World Cup winner Mesut Ozil is a doubt ahead of Arsenal’s crucial Premier League encounter against Manchester City in a week’s time.
The German is suffering with an ankle injury that he sustained in the closing stages of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Leicester on Sunday, and missed Germany’s 4-2 midweek friendly defeat against Argentina with the problem.
It has been reported that Ozil joined his teammates late on international duty due to the injury, and Germany manager Joachim Low has confirmed that it is ‘doubtful’ whether Ozil will feature in Germany’s opening European Championships’ Qualifier against Scotland tomorrow.
The extent of Ozil’s injury had not yet been confirmed, but there are fears that he may miss the upcoming clash against champions Manchester City at The Emirates.
If the German maestro is unavailable then English duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Jack Wilshere could step into the side, whilst new signing Danny Welbeck is also waiting in the wings.
Ozil, who scored seven goals for Arsenal in all competitions last year, has started the Gunners’ last three games and looks set to be a key component of Wenger’s side once he reverts to his favoured No10. role.
