Thank god for that… the highs and lows of the transfer window finally comes to an end and the ‘doom and gloomers’ that surround our club can take a holiday until January and we can finally get on with the business end of this fantastic sport we love.
The constant clicking of refresh on newsnow, and the reading of ridiculous stories made up from Fifa playing fantasy managers trying to expose clicks and views of their sites was starting to grate on me a tad, and I am glad to see the back of it. However I will miss Robbie’s daily transfer news on Arsenal Fan Tv.
If you are honest, hasn’t it been a fantastic window? Ok we are short in a few areas but we will cope. The business we did at the start of the window was awesome. Sanchez is starting to find his feet and Chambers looks like a Tony Adams in the making, and oozes class for his age. How many tackles has he already won?
Debuchy to me is already an upgrade to Sagna who was an awesome servant for 7 seasons, and we finally look to have a keeper who can actually challenge for a first team place based on his world cup heroics.
But then there was yesterday and the news of signing Danny Welbeck. Reading a few sites today it seems as it has completely separated Arsenal Fans, ex players and celebrity fans.
Yes, It needed time to sink in as I wasn’t sure, but I have thought long and hard today about it and all in all I think it could be a very inspired signing by Mr Wenger of a player who is just coming of age and has been played out of position for the last few years.

Remember the reason he has played out of position is not due to his ability to be a target man, but that he has played second fiddle to more established names and strikers at Utd, most recently Rooney and RVP.
Now he has his chance to prove he has what it takes at this level, and you can see with his performances on occasions for England that when required, can finish and be a target man who has scored some nice goals.
He will also bring a bit more pace to our forward line and is technically very astute. (Henry, joined Arsenal at 22, he had flopped at Juventus and apparently was a poor signing by Arsenal when it happened- that turned out ok I suppose)
Is Welbeck gonna be top scorer in the Premier League? Unlikely. But would you back him scoring less goals this season than Giroud in the last 2 seasons? around 20+? If so, you’ll be a braver man than me, and I think with the players we have he could get a hat full.
Also, I can’t remember the last time you could look at our team and see the heart of the future of the club is English. We have Wilshere, Ox, Chambers, Gibbs, Walcott and now Welbeck and also Ramsey (British). Its not so long ago that we were the first English club to field a fully foreign side in a premier league match, and that surely is a good thing.
I would urge fans now to get behind the club fully now at least till January, and give Danny Welbeck a real good reception against City next week, he has the opportunity to shine. At least give him that time, it is a step up for him coming from a Europa league side. 🙂
We have a very good side the best squad we have had in years and one let me add that hasn’t lost a competitive match in 13 games.
Thanks for reading.
