The England international was challenged from behind in the 2-0 loss and he immediately put his hand in the air to signal he was in trouble.
The French manager has admitted that he’s being a bit cautious with him due to his previous ankle issues, but he doesn’t know how bad the injury is just yet.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said:
Jack Wilshere has turned his ankle, it’s difficult to say how bad it is because I am a bit cautious, normally it’s not very bad but because of his history I’m a bit cautious. Apart from that no player I took off was injured.
It is really unfortunate for Arsenal that he injured the same right ankle that he kept him out for 18 months and ruined almost his entire 2011/12.
It’s also major setback for Wilshere personally, who was looking to build momentum after winning the MOTM award against Man City last weekend. He couldn’t run after that injury, but the England international completed the 90 minutes, indicating there shouldn’t be any damage to the ligaments.
He could be out for an extended period, but hopefully it isn’t anything too serious as another injury is the last thing we need right now.
