Arsenal’s first choice midfield is slowly depleting ahead of their crunch tie with Manchester City this weekend with the news that Aaron Ramsey is a fresh doubt.
Wales came back from one goal down against Andorra to win 2-1 in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign thanks to Gareth Bale’s two second half goals, but the excellent result ended on a sour note for the Arsenal midfielder.
Ramsey limped off during added time after being clipped on the back of his Achilles by a defender, and was seen having his foot strapped and receiving ice pack treatment from the teams physio.
Wales manager Chris Coleman gave a less than convincing update on the 23-year-old after the tie which will leave Gooners worried for their standout midfielder.
He told reporters:
He got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle. It was coming to the end of the game and it was pointless taking a risk with him.
Hopefully he’ll be OK for Arsenal at the weekend but we’ll have to see what the next 24 to 48 hours hold.
Knowing Arsenal’s luck with injuries Ramsey will be short for the weekend which is a massive blow. Although he’s struggled to hit top gear like many of his club teammates, he’s still a huge part of our midfield and three goals in six games is something we cannot replace easily. Jack Wilshere however will be itching to get involved, so luckily we are not too short in that area of the pitch.
The absence of Mesut Ozil in Germany’s two matches during the international break is a little worrying also, it places him in serious doubt for the blockbuster tie against the Citizens.
Hopefully we are being overly pessimistic and the duo make a quick recovery for the weekend. Get well (very) soon Aaron and Mesut.
