The saga over French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac continues. Arsenal and Newcastle have been put on alert after Marseille admitted that they may let the striker go. Although Arsenal are currently stable in the striker department, Wenger has not yet ruled out a possible move for the 28 year old.
He is in great form, having scored 10 goals in 11 games so far, and is also out of contract at the end of the season, so maybe he could be convinced to make the switch to the Emirates. However, this means that one of our existing strikers will have to make way, and that could well be happening soon.
The Daily Express claims that Arsenal are interested in signing Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo, 24. Arsene Wenger has apparently been very impressed by the player and is willing to offer cash as well as Yaya Sanogo on loan to make the deal go through. This might work out in our favour, sine Sanogo will get valuable playing experience in Russia, something he cannot do here. Also, Romulo is a promising defensive midfielder, known for his defensive ability and also for his skill at starting attacks from the back.
Another story from the Express claims that Wenger is also looking at promising French defender Aymeric Laporte. The player, who turns out for Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish League, has been impressive and is considered to be one of the stars of the future.
The 20 year old already has quite a bit of experience, having played 53 times in La Liga and he is also a regular for the France Under-21’s. He also has a strong physical presence, something that Arsenal have lacked lately.
This deal will be expensive, with the player having a reported release clause of £32million. However, Wenger may decide that he is the man for the Gunners after all.
