Arsenal’s defensive woes have dominated conversations since the start of the season, and with the injuries taking their toll it is obvious that people are waiting expectantly for the January transfer window. Whether Wenger will choose to invest or not remains to be seen but a large number of defenders are nevertheless being linked to the Gunners.
The latest name on the list is Ipswich Town left back Tyrone Mings. Reports suggest that Arsenal are getting ready to swoop for the talented 21 year old in January. The youngster’s performances in the opening stages of the Championship season have lead to him being named Player of the Month for September and this seems to have convinced the Gunners to make their move.
Crystal Palace were credited with an interest in Mings during the summer, but with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger now interested it seems unlikely that the youngster will move to Selhurst Park if the Emirates is an option.
Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy is said to be hopeful that he can convince Mings to stay at Portman Road for the reminder of the season as the Tractor Boys push for an unlikely promotion. However, if a bid from Arsenal is made, his chances of convincing the player to stay are slim.
Should We Buy?
There is no question our defensive line needs more men. Mings is young and has potential, he will also be available at a lesser price compared to other options. This makes him an appealing buy for a squad rotation role.
However, whether he is the right man for the job is a decision that needs to be taken by Wenger.
