UEFA Champions League
Kick off: October 1st, 2014 1945 PM BST
Tonight’s European fixture against Galatasaray promises to be tricky. Not only is this a must win fixture for the Gunners, Wenger must also keep in mind that he needs a strong squad for Sunday’s game against Chelsea. As such, this is the squad that the manager has chosen for today.
The defensive line remains the same as the game against the Spurs. Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny and Gibbs all start, which is good news for the Gooners after Koscielny’s injury scare. Szczesny remains between the sticks.
In the midfield, it is quite a change. Flamini, Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez and Chamberlain all start, which means that we are playing a 4-1-4-1 today. Flamini will be the holding midfielder, and will no doubt be looking to put in a strong performance and quell the critics from his previous game. The Ox and Sanchez will obviously start out wide, and Cazorla will partner Ozil in the center of the field. It is exciting to see the likes of Ozil, Cazorla and Sanchez on the field at the same time, our attacking potential is tremendous. Ox, having scored a goal against the Spurs, will also be hungry for more.
Welbeck is the striker for the team, no competition there.
On the bench, we have Rosicky, Wilshere, Campbell and Podolski. Given that Wilshere is still not fully fit and Podolski looks horribly out of form, this means that Rosicky is the best attacking player we can call upon in the later stages of the game. Campbell might also be given a chance, but it seems unlikely. For the defence, Coquelin and Bellerin are available. Bellerin turned in a good performance at Dortmund, and may feature again today.
Szczesny, Gibbs, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Chambers, Flamini, Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez, Ox, Welbeck.
Ospina, Coquelin, Bellerin, Rosicky, Podolski, Wilshere, Campbell.
