Emiliano Martinez looks set to start in goal with Wojciech Szczesny suspended and David Ospina out injured. Two injuries for Ospina so far and he’s played one and a half games already? Wow, he’s certainly a Gunner.
Calum Chambers returns to the equation after missing the Hull City debacle through suspension, and will most likely slot in alongside Per Mertesacker as the Englishman is a more natural centre back. Nacho Monreal is our fourth choice and looks likely to miss out. This means Hector Bellerin will be awarded another start after his fine performance with Kieran Gibbs on the left.
In midfield we could see a return for Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman appeared against Hull City and is in contention for a start. Arsene Wenger will be cautious with last season’s Player of the Year however, the decision will lie with whether Jack Wilshere is given the nod or not. He’s been one of our better players recently and personally I don’t see the sense in rushing Ramsey back with a start. The other scenario is Wilshere pushing further forward into the No10 role which would impact Santi Cazorla’s involvement.
Wenger will almost certainly start with Alexis on one wing and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the most likely to start on the right. Theo Walcott managed half a game with the U21’s and will need time to regain match sharpness before he starts a game again. He could be involved from the bench however.
I’d like to see Tomas Rosicky involved especially with the Ox incredibly wasteful at the weekend, but seems unlikely Wenger will do that. Podolski is in contention after missing out through illness.
