There were already concerns when Arsenal midfielder Arsene Wenger missed his training session yesterday with the German national team. The playmaker had featured for the full game against Chelsea on Sunday and then flown out to Germany on Monday and had seemed fine until then.
But after missing the training session yesterday, it has now come to light that the midfielder might be suffering from a knee problem. The German FA said that Ozil has now left the Frankfurt training camp for a medical centre in Munich, where he will undergo further tests. Ozil is part of the World Cup winners’ squad for the upcoming European Qualifiers against Poland and the Republic of Ireland.
Ozil has played the full 90 minutes in all six of his Premier League starts so far, and was involved in three games last week, against Villa, Galatasaray and finally Chelsea. While the midfielder seemed fit while at the club, it is quite possible that he picked up a small injury that has now intensified.
It is too early for any further speculation, but all Gunners fans will be waiting with crossed fingers for the medical report. If it turns out to be a serious injury, then the club will be dealt a huge blow to their title aspirations. Our injury list is already a long one with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Debuchy, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Theo Walcott all sidelined. Losing Mesut Ozil will heap even more pressure on to beleaguered manager Arsene Wenger.
