Ahead of the AGM later today, reports have emerged that suggest Arsenal’s board have given Arsene Wenger a January transfer budget of £20m to help reinforce the team.
The Gunners were busy throughout the summer as large amounts of spending saw them sign the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and Danny Welbeck. But with injury issues thinning out an already small squad, Wenger has been given some more money to purchase cover.
Although Arsenal are not in a position to come close to matching the fees they’ve spent on Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in recent transfer windows, they are still hoping to secure deals for one or two players. A good defender and a defensive midfielder top the shopping list, and Mats Hummels has been linked with a move to the Emirates.
Also, with the probable departure of Lukas Podolski, Wenger may choose to bring in some attacking talent as well. Benfica forward Anderson Talisca is the one most widely linked for that role.
