After the 2-0 win against Sunderland, Arsenal players seem satisfied with a job well done. Though the team as a whole was not so great, an amazing individual performance from Alexis Sanchez saw him bag a brace. More importantly, despite playing Monreal as centre back, Arsenal managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time in ages.
Whether it was because the 4-2-3-1 formation with Arteta and Flamini worked or because the opposition played badly is up for debate, but the fact is that it is a much needed confidence boost for a struggling Arsenal side. After the game, this is what Mathieu Flamini had to say regarding the game:
I’m very pleased to play with such a good player [Alexis Sanchez]. He’s giving a lot for the team, working very hard and also he’s making the difference.
He’s played very well until now. We knew he was a top player and he’s proving it in every game.
The spirit is great. Everyone is working for each other and that makes a difference, especially in a difficult game like [on Saturday].
[Clean sheets] brings the confidence higher because when you don’t concede goals, it’s very positive. Everyone worked very hard defensively and we can find goals with the quality we have in our team.
Arsenal won two games in a row for the first time this season with the victory on Saturday; let’s hope that this is the impetus the Gunners need to find their form and start to mount a serious challenge.
