Mathieu Flamini says he’s disappointed with Arsenal’s performance against Hull City and admits that the Gunners are ‘having a bad period’. Arsenal put in a flaccid performance and were lucky to draw the game. Hull looked good value for the win until Welbeck equalised in the dying minutes to spare Arsenal’s blushes.
Flamini started the game but was taken off in the second half for Aaron Ramsey. Flamini lamented the referee’s decision not to award a free kick in the build up to the Hull goal. It was a clear foul, Diame pulled Flamini as the Frenchman got between him and the ball. But when you have a referee so incompetent as the one we had yesterday, there is no point complaining. You’ve got to play against the ref as well.
He says that Arsenal have been too generous to opponents and says they’ve got to fix the issue. We have conceded a total of 4 goals from five shots on target in our last two games.
I’m very frustrated. First of all with the referee’s decision for the first goal. It was clear to everyone it was a foul. I was in front of the player and he pulled me back so it was a very poor decision by the referee. I respect the referee and his decision but he was the only one not to see the foul.
We’re frustrated and disappointed because we didn’t win this game. They had two shots on target and they scored two goals. We played against Chelsea and they had three shots on target and scored two goals too. We have to fix something but we came back in the game. We didn’t lose, which was a good demonstration of character but we are disappointed and frustrated.
Flamini admits Arsenal are going through a lean patch but praised the character of the team.
It’s true. We’re having injuries but we don’t want to hide behind any excuses. We’re facing the truth – we didn’t win today and we’ll try to find a solution for the next games. Today Hull had two shots on target and they scored two goals. Chelsea had three shots on target and they scored three goals so it’s very difficult. At the moment we are having a bad period but we didn’t lose today. We came back so it was great character and very important to recover well with another game on Wednesday.
Our inconsistency is shocking at the moment, we have not managed to win two back to back games this season. Chelsea are a massive 11 points ahead of us and given our current predicament, it looks like another dash for the fourth place.
