In what might be worrying news for an injury ravaged Arsenal squad, German playmaker Mesut Ozil might also be suffering from a niggle.
Ozil, who featured in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday and played for the entire 90 minutes left on Monday to join the German squad for training ahead of their fixtures against Poland and the Republic of Ireland. However, the German Football Association confirmed that the 25 year old was one of two players who were left behind at the team hotel and did not participate in training.
There was no further news to be had, but apparently Ozil later participated in some gym work, which is a reassuring sign. Ozil did not appear to be in discomfort either during or after the Chelsea game, so maybe this was just to allow the player to have a rest after a tough week in which Arsenal participated in three games.
Maybe it was just a rest break or Ozil might have picked up the flu, but all fingers crossed that it is nothing more serious. If we lose Ozil, he will join the likes of Arteta, Ramsey, Debuchy and Giroud on the injury list, and we cannot afford to lose our best creative man just when we need to push our season into higher gear.
