The former Manchester United player has settled in nicely at his new club and yesterday was a crowning moment in his promising Arsenal career. He grabbed his first professional hat trick and put on an impressive display as the lone frontman for the Gunners.
His pace and power caused havoc in Galatasaray’s defence and Felipe Melo was tormented all night.
Gibbs told Arsenal player:
He was an animal tonight. Credit to him – he works hard, he’s professional and he’s a great player. He’s important for us.
I think he has a bit of everything. He’s quick, he’s strong, he holds up the ball and he works hard. When you work hard like that, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Credit to him – he fully deserves his hat-trick and his performance.
Gibbs also belives familiarity may be one of the reasons behind Welbeck’s excellent start in an Arsenal shirt.
He knows pretty much half the squad and he’s a great guy so it’s a lot easier when you’re likeable like that
Obviously, being a local lad, he is used to the rigours of the Premier League and knowing the English core of the Gunners would have helped his cause.
Also I am more than hoping Danny ‘The Animal’ Welbeck hunts down John Terry and Gary Cahill before smashing home a stoppage time winner and celebrating in front of Mourinho this weekend. The upcoming game against the unbeaten Blues will be the perfect opportunity for Welbeck to show his class and if he plays like he did against Galatasaray, we could very easily walk away with the points from Stamford Bridge.
