For a long time Arsenal fans have been calling out for a quick striker to bring back the type of football the Invincibles used to play and Giroud has been the scapegoat ever since he came to Arsenal. However, which player actually contributes more to the Arsenal team?
Arsenal with Welbeck in the side:
Seriously Wenger…Welbeck? That was the first thing that came to mind the minute Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck. His goal scoring record was nothing to write home about and he was certainly not the marquee signing everyone was hoping would be snapped up on the last day of the transfer window. If anything, Manchester United looked like they had got the better deal when they signed Radamel Falcao. However, Welbeck has proved me wrong with his tireless running and pace that has complimented our wingers. If he can start scoring at a more consistent rate, Arsenal’s fast paced fluid attack will be well and truly back. He is starting to form a formidable partnership with Alexis Sanchez.
My analysis: 7/10
Arsenal with Giroud in the side:
- Wenger “Considering” World-Record Move For Virgil Van Dijk
- Report: Welbeck & Ramsey Both Currently Refuse To Sign New Arsenal Contracts
- [Team News] Arsenal v Newcastle – Ramsey Ruled Out For Three Weeks
Giroud offers much more than Welbeck. He has aerial dominance, something that has been lacking especially when Arsenal are chasing a game. I have no doubt Arsenal would have won their game against Chelsea if Giroud was in the side. Arsenal missed a physical presence up front .Giroud also has great link up play due to the fact that he can hold up the ball and he has a great touch to put midfielders through on goal. It is no coincidence that Aaron Ramsey is going through a slump. Ramsey’s game is not suited to Welbeck. He needs someone to hold up the ball for him as he gets into great positions to score. Welbeck cannot spot those runs and is more determined to try and score than pass the ball.
My Analysis: 8.5/10
Giroud is extremely important to Arsenal and it is only now that Arsenal fans are starting to realize how much he contributes. He weighs in with his fair share of goals but it is his overall selfless attitude in creating chances for his teammates that stands out.
