Laurent Koscielny was the latest to withdraw from the international friendlies with his ongoing ‘chronic tenditis’ in both his Achilles which sounds far from roses and daisies. With Calum Chambers the only ‘senior’ backup centre half (he’s still only 19) and suspended for the Gunners next fixture, how will the backline line up against Hull City?
The Tigers will be excited at the prospect of a depleting first choice Arsenal defence, they did after all manage to net twice in the FA Cup final against our best back 4. Now there will almost certainly be some splattering of youth to make up the numbers.
Koscielny’s withdrawal from the international set up could be enough in terms of recovery time for the Frenchman, however you cannot help but worry about his condition. Especially this early on in the campaign.
Nacho Monreal could well be back in the mix and provide another ‘option’ at centre back, but the Spaniard has been missing for some time and will be lacking match practice. Isaac Hayden seems the other likely youngster to step up after an encouraging display in the Capital One Cup.
Hector Bellerin will almost certainly play at right back and make his Premier League bow in the absence of the suspended Chambers.

Here are two possible defensive lineups to face Hull City in the absence of Koscielny:
Bellerin Mertesacker Monreal Gibbs
Bellerin Hayden Mertesacker Gibbs
Certainly a make-shift backline, but will probably be the best we can do. Of course Koscielny could be fit and were then looking a far more convincing defensive unit.
