The Italian giants are looking to strengthen up front, and have already been heavily linked to unsettled Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski. If the German’s talks with Wenger don’t go positively, we may see him leave for the San Siro in the January transfer window.
But according to the latest reports, the Italians are planning a swoop for not only Podolski but also Costa Rica international Joel Campbell. The versatile 22 year old was very impressive in the recently concluded World Cup, and this is believed to be a major factor behind the club’s decision.
Both players have struggled to break into the first team and despite Arsenal’s persisting injury problems neither have got much playing time. This frustration appears to be boiling over now. Losing Podolski would not be a good thing for the club unless a suitable replacement was found, and losing Campbell would also ring alarm bells. Wenger is well known as a developer of young talent and letting a promising talent like Campbell go without giving him the opportunity to perform is a sad situation.
The World Cup star’s agent is set to fly to Italy in the coming weeks to enter formal discussions with Inter, and Wenger is apparently happy to let his striker leave as long as he finds an adequate replacement. As to who these replacements are going to be, one can only speculate as of now.
What do you think? Should we allow these two to leave the club?
