Well doesn’t that feel a lot better on a Monday morning. Come in feeling that finally results and fortune have gone in the way of Arsenal. Topped off beautifully by Robin Van Persie yesterday evening against a Mourinho who must have thought he’d done enough for 3 points, absolutely lovely!! As we all know there is no worst feeling than being pegged back with more or less the last kick of the game when you are in complete control. Lets hope that rocks or sinks that Chavvy Blue Boat.
I must say its been a while since I smiled at anything that RVP has done, and that says a lot.
Liverpool, Spurs, Utd, Chelsea and City all drop points and Arsenal win. Rare, so enjoy it.
However, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves as our performance was underwhelming to say the least. We were literally gifted the win against a shell shocked Sunderland team who on 2 occasions cocked up to allow us to walk away with the 3 points. Alexis who is proving to be a hugely impressive signing was quality and his goals have thus far been vital, there certainly is a feel of Suarez/Tevez about his work rate too and he offers something completely different.
Regarding other players, I have been annoyed recently that we have no quality in the holding midfield role and that our options are Arteta and Flamini. Now I understand that Jack was unavailable, and that Ramsey was coming back from injury and only made the bench but to start both Arteta and Flamini in the same side against a team that has just been beaten 8-nil is amazing. Recently we have struggled to break teams down and to open up defences and yet we play only Cazorla in the centre of the park who can really only be the one who’d find a defence splitter for the runs of Sanchez and Welbeck. The Ox also showed a slightly better performance than that of recent weeks but to me he looks a little lost of late and looks like a player who is severely lacking confidence, and that was always unlike him. I would have given him a rest and brought in perhaps Podolski who was our hero in mid-week and Rosicky who keeps play moving nicely and really sets the tempo.

Anyway, we got the result so its hard to be too harsh on them this week.
A real worry is that Gibbs went off injured. You have to feel for the lad as he clearly has talent and has again started making England squads. He just can’t get a run and whats more worrying is that it means Monreal has to now play in his natural position and it leaves us with Bellerin, Chambers and Mert for the other positions. We are literally now an injury or a suspension away from playing another rookie in our back 4. It just annoys me that we are in this position and left totally exposed. January couldn’t come soon enough where perhaps we will buy Silvestre and Titus Bramble on free transfers to tighten it up a bit.
So for this week, we have a little rest till Saturday. It gives us plenty of time to prepare for Burnley and a game that we really should be winning. I fully expect this game to be one we get 3 points in and I hope it is a statement for the rest of the league that we have finally arrived. Remember there is only 9 games, thats less than a quarter of the season. Yes, we need a lot to happen to the likes of City and Chelsea but this team (offensively) has huge potential. We are starting to get players like Ramsey and Walcott back and thats only a positive thing.
Enjoy your week.
