Welbeck equalised on the cusp of injury time after some brilliant work from Alexis Sanchez. It took Arsenal an entire half to respond after they gifted Hull a shock lead seconds after the restart. Abel Hernandez fired home a brilliant header that should have been defended better by Mertesacker.
Welbeck says it so hard to break down a defence that is happy to sit back and although he managed to get on the score sheet for the second time in the Premier League, he wasn’t able to be the difference to win all three points.
The England international told reporters:
It was bittersweet because we started the game well. They got the early goal [in the second half] and made it difficult for us because they just sat back. I was pleased to get a goal but disappointed not to get the three points. There’s different ways you can look it at because they’ve been working hard all game, they maybe got a bit tired towards the end.
You don’t see those sort of things on the pitch but being on the pitch makes things more difficult. We need to see how we can evaluate it from there.
Welbeck also praised young Hector Bellerin who had a decent game.
I thought Hector Bellerin was brilliant today. He’s really quick and once he got going it was difficult for Hull to stop him. He made a few defensive challenges that got the ball back for us as well.
Welbeck is one of the few Arsenal players who can walk with their head held high. He worked hard as usual and scored from the only real chance he had all game. Proving to be a very shrewd signing. But once again was let down by the rest of his team mates apart from Alexis who was a consistent threat.
