Arsene Wenger believes that his side are capable of closing the gap on leaders Chelsea and competing in the premier league title race. Jose Mourinho’s side are 9 points clear of Arsenal and are four points clear of second placed Southampton.
Arsenal have just won 3 games this season, lost one and drawn five. Chelsea on the other hand have dropped just four points and are unbeaten so far.
Wenger insists his side have the right attitude and dedication but admits the Gunners must be more efficient to get the results. Arsenal have been so inefficient that Hull scored two goals from two shots on target, while Chelsea scored two from three and Spurs took the lead in their first meaningful attack.
Wenger however stresses that he is more concerned by the quality of his team’s performances.
I think [the] attitude [has been] fantastic, dedication fantastic, on the efficiency front we can do better. If you look at the chances we have created and the chances we have given away, I think we have created many chances and our finishing was not always at the expected level. We give very few chances away but those that we have given away are of quality, and that is what we want to do better.
I don’t write us off, I let [other] people do it. That is a little bit linked with mathematics. It doesn’t consider against who we played, how many times we played away, what is the [quality] of the team we played against, what missing players we had in the big games. That is absolutely normal but I have a strong belief we will come back and we can just prove that on the pitch.
It is pleasing to know that the manager hasn’t given up on the title yet but I genuinely fear that Chelsea are too strong to surrender such a massive lead. However hope springs eternal, let’s hope we can get on a winning run and Chelsea slip up. It’s not as if they are gonna just win the remaining games. People writing us off is actually a blessing in disguise, there is that added pressure that comes when you are leading the table. Let’s do the job under the radar and see what happens. Come on you Gunners.
