Come and have a go if you think your hard enough….. By JA
So Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Roy Keane’s book allegations were indeed correct and that if the two titans of the midfield of there generation were to kick off it would have been Vieira who’d have been the victor.
Big Pat is quoted as saying “I haven’t read it, but I have heard a lot about it, If there was a fight, it would take a long time to beat him and I would end up with a few cuts. I don’t think he would give up easily!”
I think you can see that even with the huge rivalry that the two players had for so long, and rivalries that in my opinion are yet to be matched since, there is a huge amount of respect for each other.
But my post today is not on Vieira and Keane. Its on if there was a Royal Rumble style event with all the hard nuts from the Premier League era over the years who do you think would be the last man standing? Yes, its a silly blog but in the wake of International football and the lack of any real content I think everyone needs a bit of fantasy to get their minds back on track for the weekend.
I have decided on a few players in my head that certainly would see themselves in the mix at the end. At Arsenal we’d have Martin Keown who’d certainly be up for it. Not the most attractive looking fella you’d come up against but for strength and power he’d have to be there.
Another Ex-Gooner would be John Hartson, a brute of a man his quite cowardly kick on Eyal Berkovic whilst training for West Ham was unlike him but it was up there with one of the best volleys in his career.
Other players I can think of that liked a scrap were Chelsea’s Dennis Wise. This pint sized jack russell style player actually was a decent footballer but whenever it kicked off he was always at the front of it. However, I can’t see him lasting against the bigger lads. But for sheer braveness and heart he’d still have a go, or perhaps he was all mouth and no trousers.
Another Chelsea man is Didier Drogba- The ugliest of the Williams sisters but potentially the strongest. He’s never really been a fighter more of a diver but I reckon with his sheer strength he’d be right up there.
Neil Ruddock, perhaps not now as he looks like Meatloaf’s fatter and older brother, but in his day he had a shot like a hammer and some of his tackles could cut a man in too. Very strong.
In the same vein, you’d have to put in West Ham favourite Julian Dicks. He actually looked like a wrestler. Shaved head, not overly tall but someone who would definitely be up for the challenge.
So there are a few to get you minds rolling, who’d be the toughest Arsenal player in Premier League history, and who overall would be from the Premier League.
I am sure there are loads I am yet to think of but please let me know you you think and why.
Lets get ready toooooo Ruuuummmbble!!!!
