Arsenal are reportedly looking to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen midfiedlder Lars Bender, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport. The Gunners are in desperate need of solidity at the back, and the 25 year old defensive midfielder seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Brother of the more famous Sven Bender, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, Lars Bender has been attracting quite some attention lately, with Barcelona also rumoured to be keeping an eye on the player. It’s claimed Arsenal have inquired about the player’s ‘situation’ in recent weeks, which should mean they’ve asked Bayer Leverkusen if they can buy him but in the current transfer climate probably means that they’ve spoken to the player’s agents to see how up for it he is.
The Catalan newspaper value Bender at around €25m to €30m and Bayer Leverkusen have him on a recently extended contract which lasts until June 2019 so have little cause for worry. The German club aren’t having a remarkable season so far, and any potential transfer to Arsenal would no doubt depend on how each club finished the season.
