Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has expressed his admiration for striker Danny Welbeck and has hailed him as the perfect fit for the Gunners. Danny Welbeck was signed from Manchester United on the deadline day and it was rumoured that both Arteta and vice captain Per Mertesacker were involved in the transfer.
Danny Welbeck made his debut in the thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Emirates. He has scored 5 times in 12 games for the Gunners although three of those were in a single game.
Arteta admits he’s surprised by the technical quality and work rate of his team mate. The Spaniard believes Welbeck can become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
Arteta told arsenal.com:
I think Danny is the perfect fit for us, [with] the kind of character he is and the kind of player he is. Personally I have been surprised by his technical capacity, the way he understands the game, his work rate. I rate him more now than I used to and this is a good sign because normally the opposite is true when you watch a player on a daily basis. I’m glad he is with us. He has got everything here to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
Welbeck started his Arsenal career really well but has gone off the boil lately. He’s starting to miss chances and his decision-making needs improvement. You can’t fault his work rate though. His last goal was the equaliser against Hull and what better way to end the drought than by scoring against his former club United. Arsenal play Manchester United this Saturday at the Emirates and I really really want to get one over that Dutch Skunk.
