As you will know if you read my blogs that I have said for a while that Mikel Arteta is not that man that should be the pinnacle of our midfield and the linchpin that he is expected to be is beyond him.
I hear cries of a lot to do with Arsenal’s defence woes against Anderlecht occurred after he had to go off. This may be true, but one (or a few decent displays) against way weaker opposition at home (Like they were) doesn’t change my opinion.
Merson has said
I don’t think he can play in the Arsenal team if he went forward, I think this is the only position he can play. He’s not got the legs of Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla. He’s not got that kind of skill anymore
Now, I know I have been a little hasty on Arteta these past few weeks and it is unfortunate that he has taken a lot of my fury that should have been spread more evenly throughout the team as its not his fault he has aged as he has been a superb Premier League player mainly for Everton but also for Arsenal. But like all good things you need a time to say enough, thats it. Ryan Giggs played on much further than what I’d expect Arteta too and the reason why was due to that he still delivered regardless of age. It effects players differently. But even Giggsy knew when enough is enough.
Unfortunately, if you read my article on ‘Sanchez too good for Arsenal‘ I elude a lot to the mindset that the club has taken on, and part of that fits in with playing a man who’s best days are way beyond him, he’s playing in a position that is relatively new for him and also has been made Captain by the club. It shows a complete lack of intelligence towards the fans that pay so much to watch them. And the only reason I can see why he has been made Captain is that we need to remove the curse of choosing one of our best players as the club captain to then lose them to a club with far more ambition than that of us.
Maybe Wenger is hoping Man City, Barcelona or another club that we feed our best stars into these past few years will take Arteta off his hands.

Just because Arteta is arguably the best player we have for this position (I still think Wilshere could do a job better) doesn’t make it right… Yes we all like Arteta, yes he’s a great influence but be honest you know its not ideal to have this fella in a hugely important position on the pitch.
Anyway…. enough of my Arteta bashing….. where’s Flamini!!! I am sure now Arteta is injured I can get plenty to write about him in the coming weeks, most likely after a defeat at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
