The 23 year old joins the Addicks until December after struggling to force his way into the Gunners’ first team this season. His one and only appearance for Arsenal this term came in September’s 2-1 home defeat to Southampton in the Capital One Cup third round.
The youngster spent last season on loan with Bundesliga side SC Freiburg and made a total of 24 appearances, scoring one goal. He returned in the summer and failed to make an impact during pre-season so has now been drafted out on loan again. The Gunners officially released a statement on their website regarding the loan deal, it said:
Francis heads to Charlton Athletic for the opportunity to gain first-team playing time. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Francis well for his time at The Valley.
He is eligible to make his debut for the Addicks in Tuesday’s Championship match at Leeds United. Charlton are currently ninth in the Championship and are just three points off the play-off places as they hope to make a claim for a shot at promotion this season after several years out of the top flight.
The loan deal will give him the chance to play some regular first team football and I believe he’s highly unlikely to ever make it at Arsenal. He’s a talented boy but just hasn’t got what it takes to succeed at AFC and hopefully he can impress while on loan and secure a permanent move away.
