The Chilean international was the favorite to open the scoring at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, and won me some cash after I put a tenner down with a bookie. But the joy was short lived before Arsenal collapsed and conceded two goals in the final 20 minutes to lose 2-1 to Swansea City.
The 25 year old has now scored eight goals in 11 Premier League games following his £35 million move from Barcelona in the summer.
The former striker suggested that if the Gunners fail to challenge for silverware they could have to deter the advances of their rivals in the near future. He said:
If Sanchez carries on at this rate, someone will pinch him off us next season.
Sanchez has been in tremendous form of late, scoring eight and assisting two in his last eight fixtures. He has netted 10 across the Premier League and Champions League this campaign, contributing in a telling manner to 53 percent of Arsenal’s goals in the domestic division.
Wenger‘s team already appear incapable of sustaining their title challenge and are currently 12 points behind leaders Chelsea. His talent is such that, if Arsenal fail to secure silverware during his first season, other elite teams are likely to begin circling.
The fears of losing Sanchez should be played down right now, but Wenger must find solutions to consistent problems within the squad and if he fails to do so in January, the striker could potentially move on.
