Arsenal’s injury crisis took a turn for the worst when Mesut Ozil revealed that he could be out for seven more weeks with the knee ligament injury that has ruled the German out since October. The German picked up the injury in the game against Chelsea but the severity of the injury was only known a couple of days later when he met up with the German squad.
It was initially hoped he may return in time for the festive fixtures in December but now all that hope has been dashed by the player himself. This comes as a serious blow to Arsenal and their title ambitions (insert your own joke here).
Ozil admitted that he will not return till January at a Laureus event in Germany. Ozil won the Laureus Sport charity award.
I have already been out for five weeks and will be out for another seven weeks. That is a really long time but that is the way it is in football sometimes. My head is held high and we look forward.
While Mesut may not have been in scintillating form, he is undoubtedly our best midfielder. His off field problems have definitely had an impact on his form and sometimes it’s not fair to criticise the player without actually knowing the reason behind the wobble. All we can do is hope that he puts his personal problems behind him and returns to his best.
Let’s get behind Mesut, he needs our support more than ever.
