Last nights 2-1 loss was a typical Arsenal – Manchester United performance. After dominating large periods of possession and having the better of the chances, Jack Wilshere went and did a ‘Wilshere’ (miss an absolute sitter, do some good things, go and injure his ankle), then concede on the break with some calamitous defending sprinkled on top.
The Englishman was in decent form, adding some much needed aggression into the side, getting physical with Fellaini and upped our attacking tempo. But after a promising attack ended in Wilshere clutching his ankle, hammering the ground in pain and frustration it appears he may be set for another stint on the sidelines.
Arsene Wenger said there is no news on the midfielder yet who tried to play on, but had to be withdrawn after he failed to continue. Not the most insightful response but the quotes did come straight after the match. Szczesny’s diagnosis seems more positive as it appears his withdrawal was precautionary.
Wojciech is not bad. Jack I don’t know how bad it is because he tried to stay on and couldn’t. It could be an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.
Hopefully Wilshere doesn’t suffer yet another significant stint on the sidelines. He’s been through enough. That said he will continue to suffer knocks with his style of play and speed always going to attract rash and last ditch tackles.
Still can’t believe he missed that one on one. That passage of play is unfortunately seared into my hungover brain.
