Arsene Wenger says that Aaron Ramsey need not be obsessed by goals and should concentrate on the basics of his game. The boss also admitted that the Welshman has struggled for consistency this term.
Ramsey has come in for a bit of criticism after his indifferent start to the season. The Welshman has scored three goals this season including a stoppage time winner against Crystal Palace on the opening day.
Ramsey as we all know was the club’s player of the season after a brilliant campaign last time around. The Welshman bagged 16 goals in all competitions despite being injured for nearly half the campaign.
Wenger told arsenal.com
A midfielder is a player who defends well, attacks well and keeps his priorities right. He’s not a goalscorer, so he has not to be obsessed by that. I just want him to do his job well. The goals are the consequence of the quality of his game. I don’t believe that he has to be obsessed by that. He’s running after consistency. He’s one of the players who has been very efficient last season. Since the start of the season, he has not had a consistent run. He’s now coming back – he has been sick as well.
Ramsey hasn’t yet hit the heights of last season but he is not the only player who has underperformed. As Wenger says, Ramsey needs to get back to his basics, work on his fitness, get a consistent run in the side and he will get back to the sensational form of last season.#WelshJesus
