The Rumour: According to the Express, Arsenal have entered the race to sign France international Paul Pogba but face fierce competition from rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.
The former Manchester United starlet has become a big name in world football since his move to Juventus in 2012, and was courted by Arsene Wenger at the time however the Arsenal boss failed to reach an agreement with the Red Devils.
Pogba recently signed a new deal to remain with the Serie A giants but has previously suggested he could be open to a move back to England in the future. The 21-year-old’s price is believed to be set at around the £40m mark.
France’s ‘New Vieira’ has looked a force to reckon with since departing United two summers ago, becoming a regular for club and county. He’s managed 75 appearances in Turin, scoring 15 goals in the process.
While he’s predominantly a defensive midfielder, Pogba likes to get forward when afforded the opportunity and is clinical when offered the chance.
The powerful and skillful midfielder was awarded the 2014 Golden Boy accolade, an award for the best under-21 player in Europe. He made the senior France squad during the same year and became an integral member of the French World Cup squad. He was named the tournament’s Best Young Player.
Should we Buy?
Pogba easily tops our transfer wish list as he could be the commanding presence we need to anchor our midfield. He has fire, passion and obviously immense skill so would be the perfect signing. But it will prove incredibly hard to snatch him from Juve after recently signing a new deal. Unfortunately the report from the Express lacked much substance and we have to take it with a grain of salt.
With Wenger refusing to buy anyone to replace Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, perhaps the Frenchman is considering a move for his compatriot this summer?
Dreams are free however.
