Even the festive season cannot fulfill the wishes of the Arsenal fans. Injuries continue to abound in our team and it seems that no sooner is one player fit than another takes his place on the sidelines. It’s almost as if we have to maintain a certain number of players injured at all times.
Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini, who were both taken off against Galatasaray after picking up slight injuries, will be making full recoveries and will be available to play against Newcastle, according to this report in the Mirror. But the report goes on to state that we may not have two senior centre backs available for the game.
As of right now, we have just Per Mertesacker available as a central option. His first-choice partner, Laurent Koscielny, is still a doubt and is recovering from the injury that kept him sidelined for a month and also kept him out in the games against Stoke and Galatasaray. His replacement, Nacho Monreal, is also sidelined with an injury picked up against West Brom. The Spaniard has also missed the past couple of games and it seems unlikely that he will make his comeback this weekend, though we have no official news as of yet.
That brings us to Calum Chambers, who was originally purchased as a centre back. He was started in that position against Stoke, but picked up a red card to cap a forgettable performance and is thus banned from playing Saturday’s game. This basically means that we have no recognised senior centre back to partner the BFG.
Mathieu Debuchy made his comeback from injury against Galatasaray, and should be available to start in our next game. Similarly, Kieran Gibbs should also be fully fit for the Magpies game though this is also an area of doubt. However, at least we have Bellerin or Flamini who can play as a stand in left back. In the centre, we have no one.

In the prematch press conference, the manager should provide further details and now we can only wait for that and hope that either Koscielny or Monreal is cleared by the physios.
