During the press conference today, Wenger was asked a question by a journalist:
With regard the defensive problems, are you confident you can solve them on the training pitch or do you have to dip into the transfer market and give them some help?
His answer, as tweeted by the official Arsenal account, was:
Wenger: "If everybody is fit then we don't need to go into the transfer market" http://t.co/YgssWomiHf

This was seen by most media outlets (and fans) as yet another sign of Wenger refusing to admit his mistakes and thus screwing us over. But, as elaborated here, this was not his complete answer. His actual answer to the question was:
Look if everybody is fit and available we don’t need to go on the transfer market. But we have to consider that Koscielny could be a question mark with his fitness and we have to go out on the transfer market, yes.
While this is still not as direct as we would like, and is a very roundabout way of getting to the point, it is clear that Wenger is not saying that he does not need to buy; what he is saying is that he is being FORCED to buy because of the injuries in the squad and that in an ideal world where the players were fit he would not consider buying in January.
But this is not an ideal world at all, as far as Arsenal is concerned. Having everyone ‘fully fit’ is only a dream that every Gunners fan has, and that is probably destined never to come true. So, unless we have a miraculous recovery of everyone who is currently injured, Wenger is going to buy and has admitted as much.

This will do nothing to calm the voices speaking against him though. As soon as this tweet went live, social media was filled with people ranting about Wenger. Though it was undeserved, at least in this case, some of the tweets were too hilarious to be left out. So here they are, for your pleasure.
I wish Wenger would stop talking until/if we ever challenge for Premier League again. His excuses are almost worse than his failure. #afc

Why does Wenger do it to himself? It's as if he wants us fans to hate and abuse him. Pathetic #afc

Wenger's just trolling us now. Problem is, fans are going to get even more furious if he doesn't stop spouting such nonsense. #Arsenal

You have to hand it to Arsene Wenger. He's got fantastic banter.

But ultimately only one thing matters. By the time the January transfer window ends, we need to be AT LEAST one defender richer. Anything else is simply not acceptable. So buy Wenger, BUY!!
