We could finally be signing the centre-back we so desperately need as Winston Reid tells West Ham United he will not be signing a new contract and wants to become an Arsenal player, according to the Mirror.
Hammers manager Sam Allardyce has already spoken out about the fact Reid is likely to leave the Boleyn Ground in the near future and his starting XI against Hull City on Saturday suggested the 60-year-old was already preparing for life without the New Zealand international.
Allardyce opted to play James Collins and James Tomkins in central defence in their 3-0 Premier League triumph, although insisted after the victory that it was because the duo had played so well against Everton in the FA Cup in their previous match.
Reid views the move to the Emirates Stadium as a dream come true and has made it clear to West Ham he will not be signing a new deal in the hope he can force through an exit from the East London club in this January transfer window.
Arsene Wenger had been hoping to use the fact the 26-year-old’s current contract runs out in the summer to land the defender for a cut-price fee of £4.5m, but it’s understood the Irons are holding out for closer to £8m.
