Reports from Sky Sports says that we are on the verge of signing Legia Warsaw wonderkid Kystian Bielik for a transfer fee in the region of £2m.
Representatives from Arsenal have flown out to Poland to finalise the deal and the 17-year-old will become our first signing of the January transfer window.
Bielik is a defensive midfielder – a position we need to recruit in desperately – although whether the teenager will be immediately ready for first team football is doubtful.
However, his current manager – the former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United defender Henning Berg – has heaped praise on the youngster.
“He’s a physical player with good skills. He has very good understanding of the game and match mentality. Krystian is quite far ahead of other players at his age,” Berg said.
There is also interest in Bielik from an unnamed Bundesliga club (believed to be Hamburg) but the midfield ace is said to have his heart set on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Whilst it will be great to see more young talent arriving at the club, Wenger still needs to sign some more experienced heads and another midfielder and a centre-back have to remain the priorities.
