Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko have returned to training for Manchester City ahead of next weekends blockbuster tie with Arsenal at Etihad, with Dzeko expected to shake off the rust against Everton on Saturday.
Aguero tops the goalscoring charts despite missing City’s last seven games after suffering a knee injury in December, before Dzeko strained his calf a week later. Stevan Jovetic’s persistent injury woes added to the problem but that hasn’t stopped the Citizens from storming back up the table to catch Chelsea.
While Dzeko could be back this weekend to face the Toffees, Aguero will be handled with more care and is likely (unfortunately) to be back in contention for the clash with Arsenal.
There is some positive news however with Yaya Toure missing due to the African Nations Cup and imminent signing Wilfred Bony from Swansea will also be on duty with Ivory Coast. Elsewhere Vincent Kompany is back in training and is likely to be back against the Gunners.
Arsenal themselves will be hoping for some positive team news when Arsene Wenger addresses the media tomorrow. Mesut Ozil is closing in on his return to first team action, while some more minutes for Theo Walcott this weekend against Stoke City could help him rediscover the form that saw the Englishman score a tidy brace at a Etihad last campaign. Aaron Ramsey could also be in contention as well as Mathieu Flamini.
