Our victory over Manchester City was down to a united team effort, and every player knowing his role. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain claims it was our solid defensive display that secured us the victory, and picked out Francis Coquelin for special praise on Arsenal‘s official website.
The Frenchman has been superb since being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic in December, and is staking his claim for a regular starting place in the Arsenal first team.
“We defended solidly right from the front, all the way to the boys at the back, who were tremendous,” the Ox said.
“I think Francis Coquelin in midfield really gave the back four good protection and we countered well and caused them problems.”
21-year-old Chamberlain looked a constant threat going forward in the first half, and his pace and power proved too much for the City defenders on several occasions. He tracked back when he needed to however, and provided plenty of cover for young right-back Hector Bellerin.
The England international was surprisingly substituted early in the second half; replaced by Tomas Rosicky.

Compared to a couple of other players he looked fairly fresh legged, and there were certainly arguments for him to be kept on. The boss’ decision proved right in the end however, as we saw out the game to secure victory over the Premier League champions.
We ended City’s 14 game unbeaten streak, and prevented them from scoring for the first time in 16 matches. The performance should give us a huge amount of confidence, and hopefully we can kick on from here.
