Manchester City wanted to bring our sensational summer signing Alex Sanchez to the Etihad this season, but were restricted by Financial Fair Play, according to the Daily Mail.
Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini is a big fan of of his compatriot, and has apparently tried on a number of occasions to bring him to Manchester. FFP regulations were the latest obstacle to overcome, and having recently been punished by UEFA the club had to curb their spending somewhat.
Money was unlikely to be the only issue, as Sanchez was very clear that he wanted to play in London. Liverpool also tried to bring the 26-year-old over from Barcelona, but Arsenal seemed like the only club he was ever going to end up at.
Arsene Wenger also had a huge part to play with the Frenchman personally discussing the move with Sanchez during the World Cup in Brazil.
One thing is for sure though, this Sunday’s clash at the Etihad could have been an entirely different challenge had our star man ended up signing for City last summer.
