Hector Bellerin was a doubt for this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Brighton, but Arsene Wenger was hopeful he would recover in time. It looks as though the manager’s faith has been rewarded, as the Spaniard was snapped training with the rest of the Arsenal team ahead of Sunday’s game.
The 19-year-old looked somewhat out of his depth when he first turned out for Arsenal this season, but has very quickly grown into a fantastic right-back.
Having spent time as a winger in the past, his attacking ability was never in question. There were times when he looked to be rather suspect defensively, but looks to be maturing quickly and seems capable of a disciplined performance when required.
With Mathieu Debuchy suffering his second long term injury of the season, Bellerin’s rise to prominence is likely to prove even more vital. He was superb against Manchester City last weekend, and will be looking to take advantage of his time in the side to nail down a place.
With Wenger likely to rest some of his other first team defenders, there are few options available to him at right-back. Calum Chambers has been absent recently, but if he does return it’s likely he will slot in at centre-back rather than displacing Bellerin.
